STRATEGIC NEWS WATCH — September 2, 2026

Amgen’s Tavneos is unravelling across regulators over the integrity of its pivotal trial data, while on the same day Washington funded bedside RNA manufacturing and tightened enforcement around the GLP-1 grey market. Today’s top developments:

What to Watch
- Amgen’s FDA hearing on Tavneos — Amgen has refused the January 2026 withdrawal request and still awaits a hearing while the UK and EMA move to revoke. The open question is whether the FDA schedules it, and whether a real-world-evidence argument can carry a benefit-risk case the pivotal data no longer supports.
- Bridge-program persistence, not enrolment — The $1.5–1.8 billion annualized figure assumes seniors stay on therapy. Refill and discontinuation rates over the coming quarters are the metric to track, since adherence rather than sign-ups will set the real number — and Jefferies itself flags a likely post-surge flattening.
- The September 8 warning-letter deadline — The five peptide sellers must respond by September 8, 2026. The signal to look for is whether the FDA escalates to seizures or injunctions, which is what would separate this from the March 2026 telehealth compounding letters.
- USPSTF grade changes, not personnel — After the June 2026 Braidwood ruling the appointment fights are largely settled; the event that would actually narrow ACA first-dollar coverage is a downgrade of an existing ‘A’ or ‘B’ recommendation. The first such grade change — and whether the postponed meetings resume at all — is what matters here.
- TEV-‘408’s symptom data — The Phase 2a win is histological, in just 50 patients, with a confidence interval whose lower bound sits close to zero. The fuller dataset at the promised scientific meeting, and the Q4 2026 vitiligo Phase 2b, will reveal whether mucosal protection translates into symptom benefit and supports the ‘pipeline-in-a-product’ claim.
